Sleep Apnea

The increase in awareness of sleep apnea has led Dr. Wolt to become an expert in treating the condition. A majority of people who snore have sleep apnea although most don’t know it. This is dangerous because when undiagnosed, sleep apnea can lead to cardiovascular issues such as high blood pressure, heart attacks, stroke, or even obesity and depression.

People who suffer from sleep apnea stop breathing for several seconds at a time throughout the night, disrupting their sleep and affecting the supply of oxygen to the blood. Treatment includes behavior therapy for mild cases, while more serious cases may require a mouthpiece (called an appliance) to keep airways open, or even an air pump (called a CPAP) to pump air into the throat.
